On Saturday, 1 March 2014, URBAN RESEARCH opened a café-equipped edit shop on the B3 floor of Omotesando Hills Main Building — and green bar(グリーンバー) was the juice counter inside it. Shibuya Channel’s MIO visited for the smoothie lineup that Urban Research was pitching as an easy nutrition fix inside an otherwise fashion-forward basement.

The shop around the bar

The new floor was not a standalone juice kiosk. It was an Urban Research “edit” space stocking labels such as FREEMANS SPORTING CLUB (New York menswear), WORK NOT WORK (England), and BY MALENE BIRGER (Denmark), with green bar embedded as the in-house café proposition.

That pairing mattered: you could browse international select brands, then drink something green without leaving the building.

Smoothie menu and the komatsuna pick

Three smoothies anchored the board at launch:

  • Komatsuna, Apple & Banana — ¥480
  • Carrot, Orange, Apple & Celery — ¥480
  • Açaí & Banana — ¥580

MIO chose the komatsuna blend for dense nutrition and claimed detox appeal. Her note on komatsuna is practical: raw in salad can feel aggressive, but blended with apple and banana it turns bright and easy to finish.

green bar also operated a sibling location in Shibuya’s Jinnan area — useful for people who wanted the same concept closer to the station side of the district.

Omotesando Hills vs Shibuya habits

The Omotesando Hills address — 4-12-10 Jingumae, Main Building B3F — sits on the Omotesando spine, a different mood from scramble-side Shibuya even though both belong to the same west-Tokyo shopping orbit. Shoppers who live around Shibuya often cross between Hills, PARCO, and Marui in one day.

When you watch foot traffic from a Shibuya Crossing live camera, remember that not every “Shibuya day” stays inside the ward’s core — Omotesando Hills pulls the same customers downhill toward Aoyama.

If you are planning café hops on a trip budget, pair this archive note with cheap eats in Tokyo.
