On 18 June 2008, as B’z released the 20th-anniversary best-of B’z The Best “ULTRA Pleasure” (legacy hits plus two new tracks), Shibuya Channel walked the streets to document how thoroughly the duo had painted the ward.
What “Shibuya jack” looked like on the ground
The campaign mixed flags, street boards, wall signage, and peel-off advertising. Roughly 1,000 flags went up across Center-Gai, Dogenzaka, Koen-dori, Miyamasuzaka, and wider Shibuya streets — including Hyakkenten and the east-exit shopping association — so the scramble basin read B’z from almost any approach.
Large fixed pieces included:
- A 15 m street board beside Tower Records Shibuya
- A 9 m wall board on Shibuya Seibu Movida
Fans photographing the boards were part of the scenery as much as the panels themselves.
The Parco “B’z Supplement” peel-off
The headline stunt sat on the 21 m board between Parco Part 1 and Part 3. Framed as “B’z is a heart supplement,” peel-off packs of “B’z Supplement” carried original lyric cards for eight songs — one track per pack — with playful “symptoms” such as missing someone or needing power.
Opening peel-off slot on the morning of 18 June drew a queue that wrapped around Parco Part 1. Staff limited fans to one pack each; after peeling, many stayed to photograph the mural and the line itself. Sampling also ran from 17 June at selected record shops nationwide (while stocks lasted).
