On 25 March 2012, Shibuya Channel covered newly opened 表参道 Vagecate (Vegecate) — a soy-meat karaage counter that had started service around 22 February 2012 at Jingumae 4-26-21. Directions from the page: from Jingumae crossing toward Omotesando, left between Lawson branches, then the shop on the right.

What was on the fryer

The pitch was “next-generation healthy fast food”: soy protein, homemade brown-rice flour batter, plant lactic cultures, and a build that skipped meat, fish, egg, dairy, honey, wheat, and white sugar — billed as cholesterol zero. Interior was a narrow counter-only room with wall mascot Kate-kun (head shaped like karaage).

Flavor base: light ginger, or richer miso-soy. Add ¥80 for soy-mayo, jan-dare, barbecue, or salt sauce. Piece sizes: S ¥210 / M ¥370 / L ¥530. Karaage bowls (sauce included): M ¥530 / L ¥680. Sides included nukazuke, miso soup (¥160), brown-rice madeleine (¥210), brown-rice tiramisu and soy fromage blanc (¥320). Lunch takeout of bowls was common on the visit day.

Hours listed: 11:00–19:00, closed Tuesdays. Site (historical): vegecate.com.

The shop later closed (contemporary reports put shutter around September 2012); this page restores the opening backlink.

Omotesando–Jingumae still feeds the eastern approach to the scramble — watch that density on the Shibuya Crossing live camera. Snack math for a Tokyo day sits inside average trip to Japan cost.
